Climate Positive Vision

This group launched out of the January Climate Movement Institute
at Macalester College on January 9-14 2008. This meeting united a group
of about 20 youth leaders in open discussion about the climate movement
and what it needs to be.
A bit like WeCAN itself, the group is pretty self-defined and is
consciously created to be open to the creativity of more leaders who
believe in being climate positive. The climate positive vision is not
limited to young people, but this group is primarily about youth
organizers. A few key ideas that we hold:

  • The frames of the past will not get us to the future. Instead of
carbon reductions limiting our development, we can build a dramatic
vision based on opportunities for a climate positive future that
empowers ourselves, each other, and society to adapt and thrive.
  • We think big: we can and we must in order to build a positive and
aspirational response to the challenge of global warming and
    unsustainability.
  • We focus on communication and relationship - building real
relationships between people in the climate movement as well as those
who do not consider themselves in it is central.
  • The center of climate solutions is people - we make it happen, and
it cannot happen without us, and we cannot pursue solutions in
ignorance of how they will effect ourselves and others.
  • The goal is the process - creating open space for innovation and
collective action works far better than trying to define the course
    forthe world.
  • We create the solution as we go along - the evolution of this vision is up to you, hence the next point:

We are working to advance this vision through a broad range of
venues in the youth climate movement and broader society. This stuff is
really big and hard to explain ... Want to help make it possible?

Times:
We met January 9-14 at Macalester in St. Paul, and will meet in many times and places again as we meet more people who live the Climate Positive Vision.

WeCAN and Google Visioning Blurb

Hey all,

I wrote a short blurb about WeCAN, Google, and networking with the internet. I encourage you to check it out and think about what things need to be functional within Google, and what features will help WeCAN become the best thing ever.

Timothy update 1/27/08

Hi all you Climate Positive folks,

So, life is just flying, and I start classes tomorrow. It's supposed to
rain tomorrow. I repeat, it is January in Minnesota, and it is supposed
to rain tomorrow. This does not happen.

I have lots of really awesome news, but first some logistical stuff.

Google Map Skillshare

I've uploaded a skillshare for making Google Maps. It's not great, and I would appreciate some feedback/help on the development from those of you with web skills (if you have the time). Thanks, you're all amazing!

Testimony at Washington House Hearing

Hey all,

wanted to get out there that I testified at the Washington House hearing on the Climate Action and Green Jobs Bill. I was one of two young voices, (the other being an incredible 2nd grader). It was a positive hearing and I let them know that the Youth are looking towards a postive future and fueling a growing movement.

Timothy explains how awesome the Citizen's conference was, and ironically, how this conference has the power to be really awesome too.

01.09.2008 Introductions

Who the heck are we? If you've forgotten by now, I'm hurt. This is a recording of our introductions, which turned out to take a long time because we're all very talkative (which is awesome). Sadly, a few people were not at this part of the conference...
